Third Generation (2008–2013)

In the third generation, the Subaru Forester had production years from 2002 to 2008 and used the same F4 layout. Engines available include a 2.0L flat-four, a 2.0L flat-four turbo, 2.5L flat-four, a 2.5L flat-four turbo, a 2.0L flat-four turbodiesel and a 2.5L S-edition flat-four. Transmissions available in this generation increased for the diesel engine including a 4-speed automatic, a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual (specifically for the diesel).

Fourth Generation (2013–present)

The production years for the fourth generation are from 2012 to present and the model years are 2013 to present. The engines available for the first few years of this generation decreased from the last generation to four. Engines include a 2.0L flat-four, a 2.0L flat-four turbo and a 2.5L flat-four gasoline and a 2.0L flat four turbodiesel. Transmission for this generation include a six-speed manual and a lineartronic CVT type.
