The first generation of the Mazda 6 was produced from 2002 until 2008. It came in 3 different body styles including a 4-door sedan, 5-door estate and a 5-door hatchback. Mazda offer a host of engines available for the Mazda 6. These include a 1.8L I4, a 2.0L I4, a 2.3L I4, and a 3.0L V6 gasoline engines and a 2.0L diesel engine. Also, in the first generation saw several different transmission available. These included a four-speed automatic, two five-speed automatics, two five-speed manuals, a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic.
The second generation of the Mazda 6 saw quite a few differences from the previous generation. The body style was only offered as a four-door sedan with a layout of front-engine, all-wheel drive. The automobile class was considered a mid-size car. Mazda went from five engines available in the first generation, to one engine in the second generation. The engine available was a 2.3L direct injection ignition, turbo I4. The only transmission available was a six-speed manual. This second generation lasted from 2008 until 2013.
The third generation saw Mazda bringing back the body styles of a hatchback in the United States along with the 4-door sedan. Once again, Mazda offered several engine and transmission options. Engines available included a 1.8L I4, a 2.0L I4, a 2.5L I4, and 3.7L V6. Transmissions available included a five-speed automatic, a five-speed manual, a six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual. The third generation was started in 2014.
