In 1814, Francis Scott Key wrote a poem call the Defense of Fort M'Henry, after watching the British Royal Navy bombard the Fort McHenry from a ship in the harbor during the Battle of Baltimore. This poem was eventually set to music can became the Star Spangled Banner, America's national anthem.
