The first generation of the Hyundai Santa Fe was produced in 2000 for model year 2001. Production lasted from 2005 to present in Russia and 2006 to present in China. The engines that were offered were a 2.4L inline 4, a 2.7L V6, a 3.5L V6 and a 2.0L inline 4 diesel. Transmissions available included a five speed manual, a four speed automatic and a five speed automatic.
The second generation of the Hyundai Santa Fe was still assembled in Ulsan, South Korea and Egypt, but new plants included two in the United States (Alabama and Georgia) and also one in Malaysia. All production has been done in China since 2011. Hyundai offered more transmissions in the Santa Fe including a four speed automatic, a five speed manual, a five speed automatic, a six speed manual and a six speed automatic. The amount of engines that were offered have increased including a 2.4L inline 4, a 2.7L V6, a 3.3L V6, a 3.5L V6 gasoline types and three different 3.3L inline 4 diesel types.
In the third generation, the Hyundai Santa Fe had the production year starting in 2012 for model year 2013. The two available transmissions have been a six speed manual and a six speed automatic.
