Auto manufacturer Honda first started producing the Odyssey in 1994 as a minivan. Honda offered the Odyssey in European markets as the “Shuttle”. The Odyssey was considered as Honda’s first minivan. The Odyssey brand name is not the first time Honda used it. In the 1970’s until the mid-1980’s, there was also an all terrain vehicle (ATV) that bared the same name. It was a four wheel, single seat ATV.

While the first generation of the production years for the Honda Odyssey lasted from 1994 to 1998, the model years was 1995 to 1998. All of the Odysseys produced in the first generation was assembled in Japan. There were two available engines including a 2.2L inline 4 and a 2.3L inline 4. Honda only offered one transmission in this first generation which was a four speed automatic.
The second generation consisted of production years 1998 through 2004 for model years 1999 to 2004. Honda added assembly plants in addition to Japan, including the United States, Canada and China. This second generation offered a 3.5L V6 engine with either a four speed automatic or five speed automatic transmission. Honda considered the Honda Accord and Honda Pilot as related vehicles to the Odyssey.
The third generation saw the Honda Odyssey production years from 2005 until 2010 for model years 2005 to 2010. Honda offered a 3.5L V6 engine with a five speed automatic transmission in this generation.
In the fourth generation, Honda designed the production years from 2010 to 2017 for model years 2011 to 2017. For the 2011 through 2013 models, the 3.5L V6 engine was offered with a five speed transmission. However, starting in 2014, a six speed automatic transmission was installed.
In the fifth generation, Honda still offered a 3.5L V6 engine, but new transmissions were added including a nine speed automatic and a ten speed automatic.
