The Honda Fit first debuted in mid 2001, but in the United States it was in 2006. One of the successful items for the Fit was that its fuel tank was located under the front seats. This allowed the rear seats to fold very low for more cargo space. This first generation Honda Fit was assembled in Brazil, China, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines and Thailand. The Honda Airwave and Honda City were considered as the related vehicles to the Honda Fit. Honda offered three different engines in this first generation including a 1.2L I4, a 1.3L I4 and a 1.5L I4; all regular gasoline type engines. The transmissions available included a five speed manual, a five speed automatic and a CVT automatic.
The second generation of the Honda Fits production lasted from 2007 until 2014 for model years 2009 through 2014. Honda offered the same engines as the previous generation in the 1.2L I4, a 1.3L I4 and a 1.5L I4; however a new transmission was added. Transmissions available now included a five speed manual, five speed automatic, a new six speed manual and the CVT automatic.
The third generation of the Honda Fit consisted of production years from 2013 and model years from 2014. The countries assembling the Fit increased including India, Malaysia and Mexico. The Honda Fit also saw some new engines added to the line-up consisting of three different 1.5L gasoline type engines and a 1.5L diesel engine.
