In early 1982, the first generation of the Ford Ranger was produced. This first generation of the Ranger included powertrains available including inline four cylinder engines, V6 engines and diesel engines and manual and automatic transmissions. This generation included standard beds, long beds and Supercabs. The wheelbase was approximately 107 inches to 125 inches, with an overall length from approximately 175.5 inches to 193.4 inches. The width of these Rangers was approximately 66.8 inches. The first generation lasted from 1983 until 1988.
During model years 1993 until 1997, the Ranger included three different engines including a 2.3L inline 4, a 2.0L V6 and a 4.0L V6. These model years included several different transmissions including a five speed manual, three (3) four speed automatics and a five speed automatic. Model years 1998 until 2011 saw some additional engines and less transmission available. These included a new 2.5L inline 4 and a 4.0L SOHC V6 engines, a five speed manual transmission and a four speed and five speed automatic transmission. The second generation lasted from 1993 until 2011. Ford also announced that they will bring the Ranger back starting in 2019!
