First Generation (1948–1952)

In 1948, the first generation of the Ford F-Series pickup trucks was introduced. This was considered a replacement for the car-based pickup. This F-Series consisted of several trims and types including conventional truck, cab-over engine, pickup, panel truck and school bus. The first generation lasted from 1948 until 1952.

Second Generation (1953–1956)

A new version of F-Series was made in the second generation starting in 1953. Notable changes in engines, overall size and chassis were added. This generation started Ford’s naming convention for the F-Series starting with the F-100. The second generation lasted from 1953 until 1956.

Third Generation (1957–1960)

The third generation saw the F-Series become modernized with a complete redesign. Ford discontinued the cab-over F-Series in this generation and started producing four-wheel drive vehicles. The hood no longer included the front fenders; now they were part of the body. The third generation lasted from 1957 until 1960.

Fourth Generation (1961–1966)

In the fourth generation, Ford made a major change to the body style. Ford added a new engine and gearbox and a larger body. A redesign came toward the end of this generation including a new twin I-beam front suspension. In 1965 Ford also introduced the Ranger. It was the smallest of the F-Series pickup trucks. The fourth generation of the F-Series lasted from 1961 until 1966.

Fifth Generation (1967–1972)

More engine options came in the fifth generation as well as more trim options. All F-Series suspension parts were interchangeable starting in 1969. The fifth generation lasted from 1967 until 1972.

Sixth Generation (1973–1979)

The sixth generation lasted from 1973 until 1979.

Seventh Generation (1980–1986)

The seventh generation lasted from 1980 until 1986.

Eight Generation (1987–1991)

The eighth generation lasted from 1987 until 1991.

Ninth Generation (1991–1997)

The ninth generation lasted from 1991 until 1997.

Tenth Generation (1997–2003)

The tenth generation lasted from 1997 until 2003.

Eleventh Generation (2004–2008)

The eleventh generation lasted from 2004 until 2008.

Twelfth Generation (2009–2014)

In 2009, the Ford F-150 won several awards. The twelfth generation lasted from 2009 until 2014.

Thirteenth Generation (2015–present)

The thirteenth generation started in 2015.
