Model year 2001 saw the first generation of the Ford Escape and was actually produced starting in 2000. Technically, the Ford Escape is a crossover vehicle, but Ford markets the Escape as part of it’s SUV line consisting also of the Explorer and Expedition. This first generation offered several engines; a 2.0L I4, a 2.3L I4 and a 3.0L V6. Transmissions included a 5-speed manual, two 4-speed automatics and a Hybrid. This first generation also saw different trim levels offer than present models including the XLS, XLT, XLT Sport, Limited and Hybrid. The first generation lasted from 2000 until 2006.
The Los Angeles International auto show featured the Ford Escape in 2006. Ford Motor Company made an electronic stability control system standard on the Escape also. The second generation of the For Escape offered three different engines; a 2.3L I4, a 2.5L I4 and a 3.0L V6. Transmissions included a 5-speed manual, a 4-speed automatic, a 6-speed automatic and a Hybrid. On the same chassis, the Ford Escape was matched with the Mazda Tribute and the Mercury Mariner. The Washington auto show in 2008 debuted the 2009 Mercury Mariner and the 2009 Ford Escape. The second generation lasted from 2007 until 2012.
The third generation of the Ford Escape saw the Ford Europe design. The first generation lasted from 2012 until present.
