In 1966, the first generation of the Ford Bronco was introduced. This first generation of the Bronco was considered as a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV). It came in three different body styles, including a two door pickup, a two door roadster and a three door station wagon. Engines available included a 2.8L inline (straight) six, a 3.3L inline (straight) six, a 4.7L V8 and a 4.9L V8. The wheelbase was approximately 92 inches with an overall length of 151.5 inches. The width of the Bronco was 68.5 inches and the height was 71.6 inches. The first generation lasted from 1966 until 1996.
A dramatic change happened in the second generation of the Ford Bronco. Notable changes in engines, overall size and chassis were added. This generation changed from the original compact SUV to a full size SUV. This generation consisted of big engines including a 5.75L V8 and a 6.6L V8. Transmissions included two 4-speed manuals and a 3-speed automatic. The wheelbase increased eight inches to 104 inches. The second generation only lasted from 1978 until 1979.
The third generation saw the For Bronco become a little more modernized with a new front grill. This generation also was assembled in another location including Australia. Engines included a 4.9L inline 6 and three V8’s including a 4.95L and two 5.75L engines. The third generation lasted from 1957 until 1960.
In the fourth generation, Ford only assembled the Bronco in the Wayne Michigan plant. The fourth generation of the Bronco lasted from 1987 until 1991.
The fifth generation started in 1992 and ended in 1996 and was assembled in Venezuela.
