Dodge started the concept of the Charger in 1964. Model years included 1966 through 1987 and 2006 through present. There was also a 1999 Dodge Charger concept car. The first model of the Charger in 1966 was a two-door fastback body style with four bucket seats. This Dodge Charger used the same components as the Coronet. There were three main body styles of the Dodge Charger, including a mid-size two-door coupe (1966 to 1978), a subcompact car (1983 to 1987), and the four-door sedan from 2006 to present.

First Generation (1966–1967)

The first generation of the Dodge Charger was produced for model year 1966. This first Charger had a two-door fastback body style and had bucket seats in both front and rear.

Second Generation (1968–1970)

Dodge change the body style of the Charger significantly in the second generation. It was redesigned and sales increased significantly as well. Some changes in the body style included rounded tail lights and hidden headlights. Though the powertrain did not change from the previous generation, it wasn’t very successful in racing until the Charger 500 was introduced in 1969.

Third Generation (1971–1974)

The third generation lasted from 1971 until 1974.

Fourth Generation (1975–1978)

The fourth generation lasted from 1975 until 1978.

Fifth Generation (1981–1987)

The fifth generation lasted from 1981 until 1987.

Sixth Generation (2006–2010)

The sixth generation Charger consisted of only 4-door sedans. This generation lasted from 2006 until 2010.

Seventh Generation (2011–present)
