General motors produced the first generation Chevrolet Cobalt in 2004 for the 2005 model year. The first generation of the Cobalt included two body types: a two door coupe and a four door sedan. The Cobalt was assembled in Ohio of the United States and in Mexico. The engine came in several sizes including a 2.0 liter inline four cylinder, a 2.0 litre turbo inline four cylinder, two (2) 2.2 litre inline four cylinders and a 2.4 litre inline four cylinder. Chevrolet considers the Cobalt predecessors to be the Chevrolet Cavalier, the Chevrolet Prizm and the Pontiac Sunfire, while it’s successors to be the Chevrolet Cruze and the Buick Verano. In 2006, Chevrolet added a Cobalt SS into the lineup, but it was a non super charged version. In 2008, Chevrolet added a special edition package for the Cobalt as well as a turbo charged engine for the SS model. In 2009, some convenience items were added including Bluetooth and the reconfigurable performance display (RPD) on the SS coupe. The first generation only lasted from 2005 until 2010.
