The first generation production years for the BMW 3 Series lasted from 1975 to 1983. BMW offered two body styles including a coupe (two door sedan) and a two door cabrio.
The second generation consisted of many more body styles including a coupe (two door sedan), a two convertible, a four door sedan and a five door touring model. Production for this second generation lasted from 1982 until 1991. BMW started the 325iX in the second generation.
The third generation consisted of many body styles including a coupe (two door sedan), a two convertible, a four door sedan, a five door touring model and a three door hatchback. This generation lasted from 1992 until 2000.
The fourth generation BMW 3 Series lasted from 1998 until 2006.
In the fifth generation, the three door hatchback was no longer offered and this generation lasted from 2005 until 2013.
BMW dropped the two door coupe in the sixth generation and offered a five door fastback. The all new 2017 BMW 3 Series offers a top of the line Gran Turismo model. BMW boasts a air breathers, rear spoilers, standard panoramic moonroof and a trunk capacity of 24.6 cubic feet. Thought BMW no longer offers the 325i, the BMW 340i offers a 2.0L Twinpower Turbo that generates 320 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque.
