Acura is considered the luxury vehicle division of Honda and started manufacturing the TL in 1995. The first generation was assembled in Japan and the second, third and fourth generations was assembled in Ohio (United States). The first generation of the Acura TL was also called the Honda Inspire and the Honda Saber. While the model years for this generation is 1996 to 1998, in the United States it was 1995 to 1998. This first generation Acura TL’s body style was called a 4-door pillared hardtop. The layout was a front engine, front wheel drive. Acura offered three engines for this generation, including a 2.0L I5, a 2.5L I5 and a 3.2L V6. The only transmission available was the 4-speed automatic.
In the second generation, the Acura TL was still also called the Honda Inspire and the Honda Saber. The model years for this generation was 1999 to 2003, while the production years was 1998 to 2003. This second generation Acura TL’s body style was changed to a 4-door sedan. The layout was not changed. Acura offered three engines for this generation, including a 2.5L and two different 3.5L V6 engines. An added 5-speed transmission was available along with the 4-speed automatic.
The third generation of the Acura TL included model years of 2004 to 2008, while the production years was 2003 to 2008. The body style and layout was not changed. Acura only offered two engines for this generation, including a 3.2L V6 and the 3.5L V6. Transmissions offered in the generation included a 5-speed automatic transmission and a 6-speed manual transmission.
The fourth and final generation of the Acura TL included model years 2009 to 2014 and production years 2008 to 2014.
Acura retired the TL and started the all new TLX starting in 2015. While the body style stayed the same; as a 4-door sedan, a new layout was called in the all-wheel drive model.
